For many endurance athletes, a full-distance triathlon is the ultimate test — 3.8 km swim, 180 km bike, and a marathon to finish. It’s a challenge that demands not only peak fitness but also strategy, patience, and a deep understanding of one’s own limits. Every detail matters — from how you fuel and recover to how you manage your mind in the toughest moments.
In this Aonach Community Call, we welcome Laura Heinonen, a Finnish long-course triathlete, to share her seven key lessons for mastering full-distance triathlon.
Laura combines experience, balance, and mindful endurance, with standout results including age-group wins at IRONMAN 70.3 Lahti 2023 and IRONMAN 70.3 Tallinn 2024, 2025, a 2nd place age-group at Challenge Roth 2024, age-group wins IRONMAN Hamburg (PB 9:14:13), 1st place (Open Women) at Challenge Turku 2025 and a 2nd place age-group at the IRONMAN World Championship Kona 2025.
What to Expect
1. Heat Adaptation
How Laura used sauna sessions after training and intentional overdressing during treadmill runs to prepare for hot, humid race conditions — and how the right hydration strategy became essential to performance and recovery.
2. Strategic Arrival
Why arriving early to the race destination helped her adjust to time zones, terrain, and climate — and what she learned when a small detail, like a hotel bed, almost disrupted her preparation.
3. Pre-Race Rituals
Consistency creates calm. Laurana shares her race-morning routine — simple, familiar, and grounding — and why repeating it before every race helps her step into competition with focus and composure.
4–5. Nutrition Strategy
A complete breakdown of her carbohydrate, sodium, and fluid intake for each discipline, using Precision Fuel & Hydration. Laurana explains how she built her plan through testing, and why race day is never the time to experiment with something new.
6. Staying Healthy
The secret to consistency is sustainability. Laura will discuss how she balances training load, recovery, and everyday stress to stay healthy through the season — avoiding burnout, fatigue, and illness by respecting her limits.
7. Mindful Progression
There are no shortcuts in endurance sport. Laura reflects on the value of patient pacing, understanding life load, and respecting the long game — both in training and in life — to achieve steady, lasting progress.
This session is designed for triathletes and endurance athletes of all levels. It’s a chance to learn from real-world experience, ask questions, and connect with others who share the same passion for long-distance racing and the process it requires.
The Aonach Community Call is an open space to learn, reflect, and exchange knowledge. Come ready to listen, take notes, and be inspired by the mindset, methods, and moments that shape the journey toward full-distance success.
